New Membership FAQs

You might have additional and specific questions regarding your consideration to join as a member for the Phoenix Rifle Club. Here are some of the industry standard types of questions (From the NRA and NSRA) that are specific to our facility, club, and business.  Also Please find our Membership form below.

Q: How often are you open during the week and what are the times?
A: We are open 3 times a week as follows:

  • Wednesday 10:00am - 8:00pm
  • Saturday 10:00am - 3:00pm
  • Sunday 10:00am - 3:00pm

Q: Can I join if I don't have a Firearms Certificate?
A: Yes you can as a Probationary Member. Members (Or recent ex-members) of the Armed Forces can also join as Full Members - note that ALL members will be going through the induction training.

Q: Can I join if I have a Firearms Certificate but don't belong to a (Home Office Approved) club?
A: Yes you can. If your FAC is for vermin shooting using small-bore firearms we may ask you to sit the Induction Class. Shooters with a FAC for air-powered arms only will have to join as Probationary Members.

Q: Can I join if I have a Firearms Certificate, belong to a club (Home Office Approved) but my FAC is rated for small-bore only.
A: Yes you can. All new members regardless of experience and certification will be subject to attending the Induction Class.

Q: Why do I need to be assessed?
A: To ensure that you are familiar with all the types of firearms that are available from our armoury & to ensure that you understand our range safety and procedures.

Q: Can I use the Phoenix Rifle Club range if I am not a club member?
A: Yes, as a visitor with a FAC Licence up to a maximum of 3 times; or as a Visitor of an approved event.

Q: How old do I have to be?
A: The minimum age to shoot here at Phoenix Rifle Club is 14years of age. The young person may not possess, own or receive as a gift any firearm, but may use a firearm under the supervision of a suitably qualified adult over the age of 21.

Q: Which firearms can I use at Phoenix Rifle Club?
A: Any that conforms to the Range Safety Certificate. We are certified up to .50Cal.

Q: Am I restricted in the type of target I can shoot at the Phoenix Rifle Club range?
A: Yes, only paper targets can be used.

Q: Will a staff member of the Phoenix Rifle Club help me if I have a problem with my Firearms Certificate application?
A: Yes, our staff will help you with your application, and support you in the sponsorship of the application.

Q: Will the Phoenix Rifle Club help me if my Firearms Certificate is revoked?
A: Yes, we will closely examine any circumstances where a FAC has been revoked and fight your corner if we feel that the revocation is inappropriate.

Q: Do I have to have my own firearms to shoot at Phoenix Rifle Club?
A: No, as a Full Member of the NRA you may use from the Club Armoury. If you shoot here as a member of an Affiliated Club you can use your club or club members firearms. If you shoot here as a guest of an Affiliated club which is Home Office Approved you may use that club’s firearms or members’ firearms. You may not shoot as a guest of a club affiliated to the NRA which does not have Home Office Approval.

Q: Can I store my Firearms at Phoenix Rifle Club?
A: If you are a Full Member then yes you may store your firearms in our Club Armoury, where a storage fee does apply.

Q: Is there a Firearms inspection service at Phoenix Rifle Club?
A: Yes our RCO will inspect your firearm.

Q: Can I buy ammunition at Phoenix Rifle Club?
A: Yes, ammunition is usually available provided, of course, you have permission to legally acquire it.

Q: I have heard that membership automatically includes insurance, is this true?
A: Full Membership includes insurance cover at our facility.

Q: What do I need to do to apply successfully for a Firearms Certificate?
A: You will need to furnish proof that you have completed the probationary period of 3 months and more than 12 visits at the Phoenix Rifle Club, 2 referee forms, 4 photos and the fee. Remember your Medical History and Background check will be a requirement during the application.

Q: Must I provide my actual FAC to join the Phoenix Rifle Club?
A: Yes, we are required to see your FAC – not a copy - if you cannot bring it in please send it by recorded delivery, we will return it by this method on the same day we receive it.

Q: How much is the membership Fee?
A: £250/yr for an individual, 100/yr for an additional family member/Junior.

Q: Can I bring a guest to shoot if I am a Phoenix Rifle Club member?
A: As long as they have an FAC License, and register as a visitor, and have not exceeded the 3 times limit.

Q: Can I bring friends or family to spectate?
A: Yes you may.

Q: Is there a restaurant or café on site?
A: No on both. We do have a small member's lounge where coffee/tea can be served and can socialise with other members.

Q: What medical facilities is there on site?
A: Range Officer staff hold first aid certificates.

Q: Who is the facility's licensing authority?
A: South Wales Police.

Q: Does the Phoenix Rifle Club have improving shooters courses?
A: Yes, there is a range of courses available for all levels of expertise, for more information please contact an RCO for you to get in touch with the training team.

Q: Where is the membership application form?
