The Universal Firearm Safety Rules

This is a generic video on gun safety, and the practice applies to any firearm. For specifics on our club, the induction training, instructions from the RCO, and the safety notices posted on the premises always take priority.

The Four Universal Firearm Safety Rules

Regardless of which range or country you are shooting in, four rules underpin safe firearm handling. Learning them properly, and applying them every time, is what keeps a range safe.

Treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Never assume a rifle is empty, even if you checked it moments ago.

Always point the muzzle in a safe direction. Never let the barrel cross anything you are not prepared to shoot.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Rest it along the frame or trigger guard instead.

Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it. Always know exactly what you are aiming at before you fire.

These four rules are reinforced during every induction at Phoenix Rifle Club. Our Range Conducting Officers supervise each session to make sure they are followed at all times.

Watch the video below for a clear explanation of each rule in practice.
